Free Coaching Clinic

November 1, 2018

Dear Parents,

Have you ever thought about coaching lacrosse? Have you wanted to help the team by doing more than just cheering them on? How about just learning more about lacrosse? Then we may have just the answer.

If you aren’t aware, Erie area lacrosse is facing a coaching shortage.

Currently three boy’s middle school programs (Millcreek, Rising Ramblers & Fairview) are without coaches for the spring 2019 season. All three programs have been proactively working to find coaches but have been unsuccessful to date. We’re working together to avert the crisis of losing the middle school programs. Everyone wants the boys to have a team to play on. One of the ways we’re trying to keep lacrosse alive is by partnering with BSN Sports to hold a FREE Coaching Clinic right here in Erie. That’s where you come in.

We’re looking for parents that would be willing to coach, we’ll provide the free training (targeting early to mid-January). If we can get 15-20 people across all the area lacrosse programs to commit to attending the Coaching Clinic, BSN Sports will work with us on developing the training material based on our needs and send lacrosse professionals to lead the clinic (2 – 3 hours). But we need YOU to make this happen.

If you would like to sign-up for the Coaching Clinic, please let me know no later than 11/30/2018. As soon as we have 15-20 committed individuals, we’ll lock in a date and time. Again, this is a FREE clinic that will prepare you to coach boy’s lacrosse or at the least, understand the game at a higher level. We need you to keep lacrosse alive in Erie.

Thank you.

Upcoming Meeting & Coaching Clinic

October 31, 2018

Hello Lacrosse Leaders,

Great response to the email I sent about building the future of lacrosse. There’s definitely is a lot of passion for the sport and the desire to see it continue to grow in this area. It’s an exciting time to be involved with the sport.

I wanted to touch base on two topics. The first being the upcoming meeting & second about having a coaching clinic in this area. Please see additional details below.

Upcoming Lacrosse Vision Meeting

Looking at two potential dates for the meeting and will determine the location after the date has been established:

  • Wednesday, November 14th > 6:30 – 8:30 PM

  • Thursday, December 6th > 6:30 – 8:30 PM

If you have a preference, let me know. If not, be on the look out for the meeting information and agenda.

Coaching Clinic

I’ve been working with BSN Sports on bringing one of their Coaching Clinics to us. This would be free, but we would need a minimum of 15 – 20 committed individuals to attend; both novice and experienced coaches can participate. They would send experienced lacrosse professionals to take us through a 2 – 3 hour clinic. We would be able to work with them and tailor this clinic to our needs, from basic form & mechanics, to game rules and more. This would be as soon as early to mid-January 2019. I’m also looking for someone to host this event and thinking it should have an indoor playing area, because heaven knows I don’t want to be outside in January, in Erie. LOL

I know multiple programs don’t have a middle school coach lined up for spring and overall it wouldn’t hurt to have additional lacrosse coaches in the Erie area. Having this Coaching Clinic could help us address our immediate need and set us up for future growth. Would each of you be willing to reach out to parents and see if anyone has an interest in coaching? Can we get 15+ individuals to commit to this?

Please provide your feedback ASAP on this item so I can continue to work with BSN Sports and get something lined up.

Feel free to email or text about the meeting date & clinic. I’m also available to talk in the evenings and weekends. Thank you for your participation in developing OUR lacrosse vision and building strong, unified leadership in the Erie area.

Initial Email to Area Lacrosse Leaders

October 22, 2018

Subject: Let's Build The Future of Lacrosse in Erie

Erie Area Lacrosse Leaders,

I’ve worked with / met many of you the past few years, for those I haven’t let me introduce myself. My name is Sid Vasey and when my son started playing lacrosse, not only did he fall in love with the sport, so did I. I began to work with different coaches and program leaders simply asking,  “How I can I help?” Whether it was on the program administration side or developing communication materials for the programs, I wanted to get involved. Why would I do this? Simply put, I wanted to see lacrosse grow around the Erie area. As you know lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports around the world. Erie area lacrosse is also growing. We have a unique opportunity to help continue this growth by building a strong foundation of unified leadership. This is where you come in.

I’d like to get us all together with the objective of discussing the current state of lacrosse in the area, develop a vision of where we’d like to see it go and begin to form a plan to get there.

We can share information about our programs, what has worked well and what areas we can improve on. We can identify obstacles in reaching our goal and develop solutions to remove any roadblocks, such as the need for coaches at the middle school level. We can begin to form a road map of where we want to take the sport, discuss ideas on how to get there and how each of our programs can work towards the common goal of growing lacrosse. By building a solid foundation, it will benefit not only all our programs, but our community.

The first action I need from each of you is please email / text a minimum of three (3) dates from November through mid-December where you could meet for a couple hours after work (if you want to send more date options, works for me). Please get those to me by October 30th. I will work to find the best date, the meeting location, provide an agenda and get the meeting invite sent out. If you don’t wish to participate, let me know and I can remove you from any future mailings. If there are others that I may have missed who would want to participate, please feel free to forward this email onto them and have them contact me.

Attached is a quick chart of all the lacrosse programs I’m aware of around the area. If anything is incorrect, my apologies, send me the updates. Also, please send the best contact number to be reach at. I’ll update and send out an “Erie Area Lacrosse Program Directory.”

I’m also in the process of working with BSN Sports & US Lacrosse to bring a coach’s clinic to Erie. I’ll be sending out details in a separate email. High-level it will be for beginner and experienced lacrosse coaches. I’m hoping this may help with our middle school coaching needs. I’d be looking for you to participate. More to come.

I’m looking forward to working with each of you to develop our vision and take lacrosse to the next level. I can be reached at this email or the number below. Thank you.
